The 24-story vertical addition to the original 33-story 300 East Randolph Street building in Chicago earned Platinum honors in our 2011 Building Team Awards. The planned vertical completion added 920,000 square feet to the structure and saved $15 million for the client without disruption to the current tenants.

This article is by Lee Phillips who is the lab manager for Professional Testing Laboratories, the largest and most technologically advanced independent flooring testing lab in the flooring industry. PTL not only tests every type of flooring material and ancillary products but also does the testing for vacuum cleaners, cleaning agents and cleaning systems as well as other products. Lee works with manufacturers and a variety of clients and deals with all types of issues from testing new technologies to addressing product performance concerns from the field.

This edition of Contemporary Stone & Tile Design focuses on the use of stone and tile in kitchen and bath design. The tile featured on the cover is an example of the many textured products that are on the market today that can add depth and personality to a space. The 3-x 9-inch gunmetal-colored ceramic tile were handmade and feature a raised oblong pattern in the middle. The tile was supplied by Heath Ceramics of Los Angeles, CA.
